Synopsis
The text of E.B. White's classic tale is accompanied by notes discussing how book was written, White's life and work, and other subjects, and by related documents.

From the Author
Though it looks easy, writing "Charlotte's Web" was tough!
Some people think writing for children is easy! The splendid writer, E. B. White took this great novel through at least eight manuscript drafts. In the "Annotated," I try to trace his steps through these drafts--hoping that will shed light on the creative process of a writer who seems to write so effortlessly. I also consider pretty closely White's relationship with his great illustrator, Garth Williams. I'm glad the "Annotated" is now out in affordable paperback. I hope it might be useful to parents, to librarians, to classes or workshops for elementary teachers. The "Annotated" sheds light, I think, not merely on one singular book, but on how art is made. I've occasionally talked to or with groups of pareents, teachers, or librarians--and have learned much from their insights too. All best to you.
