5.0 out of 5 stars Mind-shatteringly original, 6 April 2003
It make's me go cold every time I read it, and I've read it so many times. Not only that, but you can just open it at a page, and read. This is my favourite out of his books, and for good reason. It's day-to-day, but out of the ordinary, a real bundle of well-written tension, passion and thoughts that refuse to go away, and make an impression worth having. It gives another perspective to view from, and you can read it detachedly and review, or involve yourself wholly with it and enjoy wandering and wondering.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, original, disturbing, unforgettable, 30 Aug 2001
By A Customer
Aidan Chambers is always awe-inspiring and this novel is possibly his best. It's intelligent, gripping, moving, sexy, funny, innovative, haunting, with quite unforgettable characters. I have now read it three times, and admire it more each time, if that's possible. Aidan Chambers delights in language, in ideas, in unusual structures, and with all that he exerts a grip on his readers in a way few other authors can. I'm delighted to see that a new novel is on its way (2003).

5.0 out of 5 stars Creative, Individual and Enthraulling, 22 April 2003
By Gail (Hampshire, England) - See all my reviews
An incredible story of self-discovery,delving into the meanfulness of life and the mannorisms of human emotion. The twist at the end is suberb, quite unexpected and definitely leaves you thinking. It helps put a different perspective on life and helped me to see some of the more important things in life rather than concentrating on the superficial. A book for thinkers but who enjoy being kept on the edge and letting their imagination work out the plot as it unfolds, filling the bits inbetween. A complex puzzle of emotions and deep questioning that with leave anyone in absolute awe of Adain Chambers and this amazingly creative novel
