5.0 out of 5 stars A "must read" for hockey fans., 3 May 1999
By A Customer
This book is a "must read" for those who follow ice hockey, for those who keep up on Olympic history and for anyone who has a daughter or granddaughter who yearns to excel in any activity. Author Mary Turco describes how the girls came together as a team and how they overcame trials and tribulations on their quest of Olympic gold. The book runs through a gamut of emotions and extends from stories of youngsters who were told "girls don't play ice hockey" to worldwide recognition as "the best."

2.0 out of 5 stars Some objectivity needed, 2 May 1999
By A Customer
There's a good book to be written about the 1998 U.S. women's hockey team -- too bad Turco wasn't the one to write it. This is the most "fawning" text I think I've ever read. Everyone is strong, heroic, intelligent, beautiful, etc. A realistic telling of the story would have been quite enough; the embellishments only call into question the author's credibility. This would be good for teens who need a bit of an ego boost; otherwise, this was disappointing.

5.0 out of 5 stars It is an inspiring book for young women atheletes., 1 May 1999
By A Customer
This book is fantastic. It is a must read book for young girls who are pursuing a dream athletically that was only available to men previously. It is a feel good book that shows the positive results of hard work and dedication. Mary Turco has done a beautiful job of making you feel that you were there, behind the scenes of the lives of these young women while they pursued the gold. Thank you Mary.
