The ninth in the Series of Unfortunate Events continuing the story of the Baudelaire orphans. Read by Tim Curry. This carnivorous work contains such a distressing story that consuming any of its contents would be far more stomach-turning than even the most imbalanced meal. 3.0 out of 5 stars Carnivals are not carnivorous except in this one case, 13 Jan 2008
By Mehajabeen Farid "Mej_da_reviewer" (Coventry) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
The word "carnivorous," which appears in the title of this book, means "meat-eating," and once you have read such a bloodthirsty word, there is no reason to read any further. This carnivorous volume contains such a distressing story that consuming any of its contents would be far more stomach-turning than even the most imbalanced meal. To avoid causing discomfort, it would be best if I didn't mention any of the unnerving ingredients of this story, particularly a confusing map, an ambidextrous person, an unruly crowd, a wooden plank, and Chabo the Wolf Baby. The rating I would give, for this terrible story which began in the boot of the enemy, is 7/ 10.

4.0 out of 5 stars Is this the best book in the Series?, 6 Sep 2003
Im not able to comment on whether this is the book in the series as we are still waiting for all 13 books to be published, however I can say that this is the 2nd best book to date. I recently purchased this in Canada and I read it in a few days. The plot follows on from Book 8 (so read Book 8 before this one!!!!)
The scene for this book is a Carnival in the Hinterlands where the Orphans end up after travelling in Count Olaf's car boot. They are sent to work in the Carnival as "Freaks." However you will have to read the book to find out what happens to them in the end. All I will say is the end of the book will leave you wanting the 10th Book (The Slipperly Slope) immediately!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Carnivorous and hungry for more!, 22 May 2005
The ninth book in the series is one of the funniest and is extremely interesting throughout, despite a slow build up. The Baudelaire orphans find themselves arriving at caligari carnival in the back of olaf's car this time. They disguise themselves as freaks for the freakshow in this carnival to find out what olafs really up to. It turns out Madame Lulu, a mysterious fortune teller, holds the answers to all the baudelaires question, but as their luck would have it, their are many obstacles along the way, incluing olaf and some hungry lions...
