5.0 out of 5 stars Sensible, informative, complete., 11 Nov 2001
By A Customer
If anyone has read other books in the "Complete Idiot's" range, then you probably know what I am going to write here!
This book follows the same guidelines and classic structure of other Complete Idiots books in that it is sensible, informative and pretty complete.

If you want to start pracising Yoga, then this is an essential first book. As with other Idiots books, this book explains everything starting from the very basics and working its way up to more advanced yoga.

It is easy to read, well laid out and well structured. There are no complicated sounding instructions, or contorted looking pictures. Everything is sensible and do-able.There is a lot of useful and interesting information both about yoga, and how to practice yoga in this book.

The only thing I would perhaps liked to have seen a few more of, was pictures of actual people peforming the postures. Although there is a good sprinkling of black and white photographs throughout the book, I did find these more useful that some of the illustrations that were drawn for some of the exercises. The illustrations were perfectly clear though, and this is just my personal preference. The Complete Idiot's Guide to the Pilates Method by Karon Karter for example(and which I thought was excellent) contains mostly photographs of this nature, so I guess I assumed this book would be the same.

However, this is only a minor detraction from an otherwise good all-rounder.

I would recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Made yoga very un-scary!, 20 Feb 2002
Yes, like others I have often thought of starting yoga, but procrastinated for ages. I finally just went for it & bought this book.

I was a complete beginner. What I liked about this book was that it presented the philosophy of yoga first and explained what you might achieve from doing it, without launching straight into the positions. I found it got me highly motivated while I was reading it that by the time I got to the positions, I was hooked.

It leads you through the different types of positions starting with the standing ones. It then leads you into backbends, twists, sitting positions and forward bends. It was all presented in an easy-to-digest way and seemed to take you through in a logical way so that each new position was a natural follow on from the last.

This book has changed my attitude to keeping fit. It's about having a healthy body, mind and spirit. I can't praise this book enough. Buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Idiot's Guide to Yoga not dumb!, 8 April 2000
By A Customer
I found this publication incredibily easy to follow. The illustrations are clear and easy to understand and the authors are friendly teachers, not stern preachers. It encourages the novice to discover yoga at his or her own pace. If, like, me, the idea of a yoga class filled with perfect bodies clad in Lycra fills you with horror, this book is for you as the book can be easily followed at home. Best of all - you can really feel the results!
