Review

Praise for 'The Family Tree': 'Delinsky's writing is fluid and makes for a hard-to-put down book as she deftly blends tense family drama with heavy political issues' Glamour '...a sensitive exploration of the prejudices that many hold but few express...a page turner that asks serious questions about America's relationship with its past' The Times 'Fans of Jodi Picoult will love this...a poignant family story' Daily Express 'A really interesting and sometimes harrowing tale that makes compelling reading.' Sun Praise for 'The Family Tree': 'Delinsky writes with insight about complex family matters, and here adds thought-provoking concerns about race in America in a novel that will stir debate and inspire self-examination.' Booklist 'Delinsky smoothly challenges characters and readers alike to confront their hidden hypocrises (while getting) the political and personal dynamics just right.' Publishers Weekly 'Delinsky admirably allows her characters to acknowledge and correct their biases. Fail-safe delivery of an issues-packed story.' Kirkus Reviews '"The Family Tree" is warm, rich, textured, and impossible to put down.' Nora Roberts, author of 'Valley of Silence Praise for Barbara Delinsky: 'Delinsky delves deeper into the human heart and spirit with each new novel' The Inquirer 'Delinsky excels at!insightful portrayal[s] of captivating people facing challenges both ordinary and dramatic' Booklist

Product Description

Issue led women's fiction in the bestselling vein of Jodi Picoult. When a woman in her early thirties, oldest of three siblings and an avid runner, has a heart attack that leaves her brain-dead and on life support her family has to make the painful decision of when to pull the plug. Her mother Kathryn is devasted. An excellent runner herself she had sacrificed her career to marry and have a family, and lived vicariously through Robin her favourite child. She cannot accept the truth of Robin's condition. Molly, Robin's little sister has grown up in her shadow. But as the family starts to disintigrate she becomes Robin's voice and in doing so finds her own. Jonathan, Robin's brother is a scientist. Emotionally disconnected and wedded to the facts, he is the first to call for the machines to be switched off. But his marriage is in crisis, and the issues raised around Robin's life or death may bring the emotional breakthrough he needs to save his relationship. Robin's father lives for his family, and defers to them rather than voicing his own opinion. More than anyone he stuggles with the definition of 'brain-dead' and the religious and moral issues of the right to life.

(REAL NAME)
While my sister sleeps is an easy but at times thought provoking read.
It revolves around the lives of the Snow family whilst eldest daughter Robin is in a coma.
The book begins with Robin suffering a heart attack and falling into the coma so i felt that you never really knew her to actually feel anything for her, having said that the Snow family themselves soon find out that they didn't know a great deal about Robin either and thus begins their story.
Whilst i did enjoy reading the book there was never anything really exciting and i found the dialogue at times just plain dull- i couldn't actually picture any of the characters talking in such a way.
There were lots of little issues that popped up in the book, some of which i just felt unnecessary because they didn't add any depth.
Overall a fairly easy going book( despite the issues it covers) which i would recommend.
