Product Description

Dr Gowri Motha is one the UK's most respected obstetricians, working in holistic practice alongside Dr Yehudi Gordon. Her Gentle Birth Method has been hugely popular with celebrities, including Gwyneth Paltrow. Now she helps mothers in the first year after birth bond with their child and give them the best start in life. A book that takes new parents month by month through the first weeks after birth -- with detailed information on the health of mother and baby -- and progresses to the end of the first year. Covering everything from colic and sleepless nights to your relationship with your partner, the book is a practical and emotionally reassuring guide to help you bond with your new child. It contains: / the first weeks: the idea of creating a gentle passage into the world for the child and how to ensure good bonding is discussed / the health of your baby and toddler. From early days of breast feeding and helping your baby to sleep to introducing first foods and coping with early childhood ailments / the health of the mother: everything from episiotomy scarring to misaligned pelvises, insomnia and baby blues. Gowri introduces special massage and yoga techniques / the growing child: stage-by-stage development and introducing useful toys and books / family relationships: fathers and siblings, and grandparents

4.0 out of 5 stars Packed with useful information, 1 Aug 2006
This book, while much less densely packed with information than the gentle birth method, contains loads of helpful tips on mum's recovery from the birth, getting baby to sleep, breast feeding and so on. Unlike the first book, this does have an index but it is still plagued by some silly editing errors.

4.0 out of 5 stars i really like this woman!, 16 May 2009
By jo (London) - See all my reviews
as the title say i like this woman and the advice she gives. I borrowed this and her other book from my library and ended up purchasing this one and photocopying quite alot of the other. Whilst i am a little dubious about some of the homeopathic remedies suggested for some of the more serious ailments for which i would be straight down the docs or to a qualified homeopathic practitioner some of the other suggestions (of which there are many) are great. I am a huge advocate of massage and there is some great advice here although along with most other readers a weekly professional treatment is neither practical or affordable. i have read so many books related to this subject and pregnancy and this is the only one i felt i had to have my own copy for constant reference. i highly recommend it!

4.0 out of 5 stars glad a friend introduced me to Dr Gowri Motha, 3 Aug 2009
By D. Utane "Daniela+" (London, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
A friend of mine lent me the Gentle Birth Method by Dr Gowri Motha and I loved it and was committed to buy the Gentle First Year myself. The book has advice for mums and babies, recipes, exercise and massage routines and written in the same calm and reassuring manner. Would not say this particular book is a definite must-have, as there are other books that answer many questions that new mums have, but I must admit I do consult it from time to time.
