Praise for Harry the Poisonous Centipede "A real ground level story that rockets along on hundreds of legs!Bug fans will love this." Kidstuff School Books RTE Guide

Product Description

Harry may be a poisonous centipede, but he's not very brave. He would be quite happy never to venture into the dangerous no-top-world above, where flying swoopers, furry biters, belly wrigglers and the dreaded Hoo-Mins live! But his best friend, George, is full of mischief, and Harry just cannot resist a dare! As soon as their two little heads poked out of the tunnel, they saw it! A Thing. A monster. They had never seen or dreamt of anything half as big, awful and scary! Harry may be a poisonous centipede, but he's not very brave. He would be quite happy never to venture into the dangerous no-top-world above, where flying swoopers, furry biters, belly wrigglers and the dreaded Hoo-Mins live! But his best friend George is full of mischief, and Harry just cannot resist a dare!

5.0 out of 5 stars An absolutely brilliant humorous story for children from age 6, 19 Aug 2007

Harry is a friendly little centipede who lives with his mum, Belinda, and has a best friend George. They live in tunnels under the ground in a hot damp country and mustn't go to the no-top-world where the hoo-mins live because they are so dangerous. The book tells the story of Harry and George's first forays into the no-top-world and their adventures along a forbidden tunnel which to a dangerous underground chamber which is liable to flood. The story is fast-paced with some fun "centipedish" vocabulary thrown in like belly-crawler (snake) and the big-yellow-ball in the sky which the children love to work out. There are short chapters and appealing scattered line drawings so the story doesn't feel too heavy-going and the creepy-crawlies feel friendly and fun. It's perfect to read aloud to infant children or to be read alone by an older child - my son, 5, and daughter, 7 loved it. You never know, they may even pick up a little natural history along the way. A good book to read after the `Owl who was afraid of the dark', and if your child likes the funky phrases, try Donaldson: The Giant and the Joneses next.

This is the story about Harry who has lots of adventures. I really enjoyed this book and want to read other books by the same author. I love the bit where George gets spanked 42 times. I loved the story. I will give it top marks. Good work. Rupert aged 8.
