Product Description

Review

'The best thriller I've read in years.' Piers Morgan 'The biggest challenger to Dan Brown's crown ! a highly charged, theologically accurate tale' Mirror 'Compulsive reading ! successfully blends ancient teachings with the highly charged ways of the 21st century ! bears all the hallmarks of a blockbuster' Daily Express 'More readable than The Da Vinci Code -- the sense of menace is darker and the characters more believable' Esquire 'A turbocharged thriller' In Style 'Will be compared, inevitably, to The Da Vinci Code. The similarities are difficult to ignore, but it's far better written ! will thrill any conspiracy-theory fans ! a highly enjoyable read' Psychologies

4.0 out of 5 stars Clever, well written novel, 22 April 2007
By J. R. Rees - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I have noticed a lot of negative reviews here so I am drawn to write my own impressions. This is a very good book. I wish people would stop comparing books/authors and see work for what it is. There was no Jewish thread in the Da Vinci Code so why compare it. Are we forever to be thinking that there is only one book ever for a given genre.

I see similar parallel's with Tolkien & others who have followed with their fantasy quest's only to be burdend with the label 'It's not Lord of the Rings'.

So we have here, in the 'Righteous Men', a gripping drama novel set in New York and centered around the Hasidic community of the Lower East Side. The author takes you into a world that few amongst us will have experienced a creates a vision that is both facinating and a little disturbing. There are not too many characters but then again it is difficult to relate to a string of characters in a solitary book.

The central character is an Oxford taught Journalist trying to make a name for himself in the big apple and he unwittingly becomes the central player in an apocalyptic tale which the writer later states is not all based on his imagination.

No more info. If you are the type of person who likes to be intrigued with the mysteries of culture and appreciates a read that is thoughtfully paced, you could do worse that get yourself a copy of this book.

Excellent Holiday novel, which is precisely when I read this.

4.0 out of 5 stars I Liked it But......., 27 May 2007
By Mr. E. J. Gothard "Canass" (Portsmouth England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I've Read a lot of the reviews of this book, and can see what people are saying. I agree that the auther tried to put twists and mystery into this book much in the style of Dan Brown, but where Dan Brown will mention somthing briefly and then 200 pages later it will be the key to a big plot twist that you really did not see coming, Sam Bourne keeps hammering a point until you are suppost to believe the misconseption his character has made.
That said, I still enjoyed this story, and a major problem I have with Dan Browns Books are his Charaters. For example people do not speak the way they do in his books. But I found Sam Bournes a lot more Believable. And there is no bit at the begining of "Righteous Men" saying things are Fact that are not. In fact there is a bit at the end saying where all ideas come from and which bits are made up.

I do not want to ruin this for you so will only briefly high light what happens. A news paper reporter gets his first front page story, then his wife gets kidnapped and he follows some clues given to him to find out where she is, who's got her and why.
As I said before the some of the clues are much to simple and some of the twists are very obviouse but that does not make it bad, it is still a good story.
I would recommend this but do not expect the sort of twists you get from the "Da Vinci Code". Oh and if you are one of the people who keep wondering why other people keep comparing the 2 books, The Cover is almost Identical and suppost to make you think of "The Da Vinci Code". They are both Mystery books with a religious theme. And it is Clear Sam Bourne Has read at least one Dan Brown book and is trying to do somthing similar but his own idea.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than Brown, 27 Jun 2007
Despite the author's impressive journalistic perdigree, this is not even a moderately highbrow book. It is, however, both enjoyable and readable. I can only assume that those readers who prefered the novels of Dan Brown (whilst also enjoyable) either know no other human beings or never listen to them talk. The characters here are infinitely more realistic, largely down to the author's ear for the way people (as opposed to 'characters') actually speak.
