If you watched the tv series and thought you would love to make one of the gardens or use some of the ideas, the book is ideal. It really takes you through how the gardens were created with lots of detail on the more difficult aspects like the hard landscaping. Generally, I would have liked bigger pictures and a bit less text, but for a beginner who has just decided to tackle a garden for the first time, it really leads you through it by the hand. For more experienced gardeners there are lots of fresh ideas to use and enjoy. The book should appeal to anyone who likes the contemporary in garden design.

My Mum raved about the City Gardener and since she's a very talented (hobby) gardener herself I bought this book once it became available. I have to say I spent most of my time laughing at the pictures. "Here we see Matt lifting a very heavy object"... "here we see Matt standing and gazing, looking handsome" ... "and here's Matt, playing with some dirt - aw!" ... see Spot run! I mean seriously, he's on every picture!! And he doesn't even look like he's capable of getting his hands dirty! It is so cheesy and self-indulgent. I mean, he's probably a nice guy, but the editors tried to cash in purely on his good looks.

I ordered a used book and got a book in very good condition in a timely manner. Although there was a lot of good information, I learned that a lot of it was included in a video I'd purchased over a year ago. Still it was very detailed with excellent instructions. I did enjoy the insight into these amazing garden transformations.
