5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing more to say, 19 Mar 2004
This book is a great example of the one version Lord of the Rings editions being currently published. This particular edition was published to tie-in with the release of the Return of the King.
The general plot-line is evident from the numerous other reviews and generally is about a group of hobbits, elves, dwarves, men, and wizards who attempt to defeat orcs, uruk-hai, ringwraiths and more wizards by destroying the 'Ring of Power' - an evil ring which corrupts all who wear it and is controlled by the dark lord Sauron. The story follows the fellowship through a variety of adventures which causes they to become broken and divided. The later chapters shift between Frodo and Sam, and the remaining members of the fellowship as they all strive to defeat Sauron and win freedom for middle earth.

This edition is a good version as it has all six books encompassed in one volume as well as the maps and appendices but so do most of the other recent versions. This was purely a money-making release so don't buy it if you already have the book, unless you want collect the different covers, but for those who haven't read it, this is a great way to read the Lord of the Rings, although it may seem a little daunting initially. This version allows the reader to use the maps and appendices throughtout the read whilst the seperate versions, whilst smaller and easier for travelling, leave all the maps etc to the last book so you may get confused.
