5.0 out of 5 stars marvellous!, 10 Jan 2005
By A Customer
I think I have read every dating book ever published! This one is easy and fun to read - and it works!!! Well, I am dating (three months now!) a friend of a friend. I had never dared ask my friends to "fix me up" before, but Mary's book encouraged me to use all the resources I have, and without seeming in the least bit "desperate". The author comes across as a friendly older sister rather than some bossy teacher. Recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars Dating advice for the educated woman (and man!), 8 Aug 2004
By JK (W. Sussex, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
Although the book is clearly aimed at women, nonetheless as a man I found it a pleasure to read. Whether it is because the author is UK-based, a woman, or both, this book certainly had serious depth to it in contrast to the shallow, US-male written, dating book I read prior to it. For UK women, it probably merits 5* rather the 4* given by me. The amusing "Lovebite" quotations (plus the occasional cartoon with very witty caption) springled throughout the book are great and will appeal to the educated clientele at whom this book is aimed! Personally, I found this book good value for money.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a book written by someone who really knows!, 14 Mar 2009
By Ms. B. Bloomfield (Bristol UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I was really impressed by this book. Mary Balfour, who happens to be someone who fixed my now husband up with dates about 25 years ago, really knows her stuff. She has so many great nuggets of advice for those seeking love and romance but also some rather scary information from men about what they DON"T like in a date such as no short cropped hair! No green or blue eyeshadow! The men - and there must be hundreds, if not thousands - interviewed by Mary and her colleagues at Drawing Down the Moon, seem to be so conventional in so many ways. looking for someone interesting and kind (for that read HOT to look at, let's be really honest here) but not too interesting or high powered that they are scared stiff.
Personally, the whole 'flirt' thing makes me feel sick. I am not interested in men who want me to twist my hair, or bat my eyelids. Mary is very hot on flirting and looking good and all that stuff which sticks in the throat of a feminist like myself. However, if you are really looking for a mate, you need to read this book, just to get the full picture of how to improve your chances.

Barbara Bloomfield Glatt.

I was very disappointed by this book. It is basically a 234-page long advert for her introduction agency - which I've used in the past and was completely unimpressed by. Read more
