Product Description
Synopsis
Developed by Nick Page with contributions from real young people as well as leading Christian organisations like Soul Survivor, Tear Fund and Care, this is the only youth Bible you'll ever need...A unique combination of the plain and straightforward Contemporary English Version Bible, plus masses of additional notes and information specifically aimed at helping young people today understand the Bible and what it means for them. With The Tabloid Bible's scurrilous retellings and The Bible Book's tube maps, Nick Page is now firmly established as an expert at helping people see the Bible in a new way. A regular writer for Youthwork magazine (read by most of the 7000 paid Christian youthworkers in the UK), he has the contacts and the understanding to create a truly unique resource for all young people. With contributions from some leading Christian organisations like Tearfund, Soul Survivor, Care, Exalt, Hope UK, Discovery and Churches' Criminal Justice Forum, as well as thoughts on Bible passages written by real young people, this book has it all.

Special sections throughout the Bible include Viewpoints -- real young people's thoughts about Bible passages Real life -- examinations of how biblical principles can be worked out in the real world, with contributions from leading organisations in their fields Holy history -- explanations of what's going on in the Bible, cross-referenced back and forward The Guide -- specially written introductions to each Bible book, with key readings, timeline and 'snapshots' of the most important points Life files -- the most important facts about the Bible's heroes, from Abraham to King David, John the Baptist to Paul Big ideas -- key themes and concepts demystified Helpfile -- down-to-earth discussion of modern-day issues in the light of relevant Bible passages Footsteps -- mini reading plans to take you further Maps -- individually drawn maps of major journeys and areas, appearing at the relevant place in the Bible Anorak Corner -- strange facts and fun quizzes Combining all Nick Page's writing skills with the invaluable input of numerous Christian organisations, from now on this is the only Youth Bible you'll ever need.

5.0 out of 5 stars Plain English, 7 Jan 2007
Whilst nothing will replace the poetry and form of the King James Translation this is an t plain English Bible for young people. This translation is simple clear and avoids the thou's, haths and language that is likely to put off a young reader. It is also a great translation if an adult wants a quick clear understanding of a particular passage of Scripture. There is a balancing line between making Scripture more "modern" in translation losing meaning but the CEV treads this well. An ideal young person Bible and great to combine with an ESV. The only issue perhaps is that the modern gender changes (he, man to people, them and so on) sometimes blurs the actual meaning. I would add a caveat that as with all idiomatic translations you tend to get what the editors think the Bible means to say and not necessarily what it does say. If you are worried about that go for the ESV.
