2.0 out of 5 stars Great title, shame about the story, 1 Dec 2006
Boring, unconvincing charecters, Daffy was so wet you wanted to wring her neck and someone like thaat could never have even started to get a rundown hotel going, especially when she knew no French, let alone made it sucessful, Lady Emma Rankin, femme fatale, apparently perfectly content to be in the middle of nowhere in her huge castle, as if, and the other married couple, so dire that I've forgotten their names with their pointlessly brilliant children (are we really expected to believe that a five year old who can multiply fractions in his head would be happy in kindergarten in a rural French village? or that his parents would have put him there?) The loathesome guests were completely overdrawn too. Oh, and the plot was ludicrous. Really, don't bother with this one.

1.0 out of 5 stars Boring and unconvincing, 1 Aug 2007
I struggled to finish this book, having become increasingly bored by the unlikely scenarios and improbable characters. If this book surprises it is by the very implausibility of the plot.
The leading couple, one of whom is called Horatio, the other has already escaped me, annoyed me from the start by naming their son Superman and by earning a living from helping illegal immigrants. The others just annoyed me. They are all even more one dimensional than soap characters and that's saying something.
I am one of those people who would read the cereal packet or sauce bottle in the absence of anything else, and I suppose this is marginally preferable to one of those options, but only just!

1.0 out of 5 stars Far fetched and just plain daft, 4 Aug 2009

(REAL NAME)
I bought this book in one of those "buy 2 get 1 free" offers you see before the summer break, all I can say is i hope this was the freebie!

The premise of the book is not all that bad but the increasingly ridiculous and far fetched scenarios we find the characters in are now starting to become increasingly irritating. I've not finished the book yet and, if i'm honest, it's only the fact that i've no other books lined up after this one that is persuading me to carry on with it.

If you're wondering whether to order this book or another....take my advice and go for the other one!

1.0 out of 5 stars Yawn!
I rarely fail to finish a book, but this was frankly one of the most idiotic books I've ever tried to read. Read more
