Synopsis

This guide to the film industry from the 1900s to the present day has now been updated with John Walker's critiques of the films that have been turning heads in 2002/3. It delivers all the cast and crew credits, fun trivia and behind-the-scenes information you need on thousands of movies (over 23,000) including hundreds of new ones. This perennial guide also includes plot synopses and critical evaluations, as well as video cassette, laser disc and DVD availability. Reader friendly icons denote films suitable for family viewing, Academy Award Winners and nominees, soundtrack availability and video format compatibility. The guide also contains lists of four-star and three-star films by title and year.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most informative guide - must for any film buff or collector, 27 Feb 2004
This guide is far more informative than the Time Out film guide, which I had been buying for years. Includes details on soundtracks, production companies, BAFTA and Academy award info and video and DVD format details.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Reference Book, 24 Jul 2004
By Mark Eustace (Chesterfield, Derbys United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This is an indispensable book if you want to know a bit more about movies. It gives cast and crew listings for each film and provides a little insight into the movies by way of the author's own comments and for some films, those of the popular critics that reviewed the movies at the time of release. There's lots of little facts about the movies without getting too bogged down in detail. If you like movie trivia or you're just curious to see someone else's opinions about your favourite films, this book's for you.

1.0 out of 5 stars WORST GUIDE BOOK OF FILMS IVE EVER SEEN. 0 - 1, 18 Feb 2004
Having been bought this book for Christmas I thought it might be some good,Ive got the guide to actors and thats great. This book however is really a poor read. The reviewer seems to be out of touch with what realy makes a good movie , too much nit picking of films that have be regarded as classics without box office sales to back them up.
