Product Description

Product Description

Issued in a chunky slipcase, "Ancient Egyptian Tarot" returns the tarot to the land of its ancestors. Based on Ancient Egyptian life and mythology, this pack includes a tarot deck, accompanying handbook and hardback journal. It discusses: the origins of the tarot and the conventionally accepted view that it originated in Egypt; the meanings of each card, along with instructions on how to lay out and read the cards; how traditional tarot imagery corresponds with the resurrection cycle of Osiris; how the Major Arcana's central theme is the story of Osiris and his resurrection by the hands of Isis; and how the Minor Arcana reflects the culture of the Ancient Egyptians based upon genuine wall paintings and carvings from their tombs and temples.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderfull piece of art work!, 28 May 2002
This review is from: Ancient Egyptian Tarot (Paperback)
I too am a professional reader, and I have found this set invaluable. It is based on the traditional 78 card deck and has a second to none artwork that imerses the reader in the Ancient Egyption culture and religion. Most of the major cards feature Gods or Godesses. One of the most beutifull and artisticly inspiring, is that of the star featuring the Godess Isis.
The images are all realavent to the meanings of each card, plus the elemental conections between the suits is clear, flame, water etc are a part of most of the court card images. Each card is boardered by hyeroglyphics, which are actual texts taken from the Egyption "book of the dead."
In summary, the images are true to the style of the time, with clear meaning (if perhaps a little erotic at times), and the images have been thought over by the artist, even down to smallest details having some relation to the meaning of each card. The only negative thing I found was the fact that the backs of the cards have a patern that alows diferentiation between upright and reversed positions, but it is quite subtle all the same.
The book that comes with the set is insightfull, good for beginers and seasoned tarot readers alike. It portrays a black and white image of each card plus description and meaning, with a little mythology thrown in for good measure. An excelent deck and set all round. I would highly recomend it!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Brilliant Tarot, 22 May 2003
By VICTA PENFOLD (GLASTONBURY, Somerset United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ancient Egyptian Tarot (Paperback)
As a full bloodied ROMANI and brought up in the Gypsy world of occult and mystical teachings I have used a number of packs during my lifetime (Now 82) I think that this is one of the easiest and most colourful of packs that I have come across. Anyone with knowledge of the Ancient Egyptian religion will find this a very nice pack to handle and read also the handbook is very informative and helpful to a beginner. So all you prospective tarot readers, I suggest that you try this pack learn it well and go out here and get your palm crossed with silver. Thank you Mr.Barrett for a brilliant piece of work. Kushti Bok. Te jel sa Duvvel. (Romani)= good luck and may God go with you. Victa Corvo.

4.0 out of 5 stars I good quality deck with thoughtful Tarot imagery., 16 Oct 2002
By MRS J A GLENISTER (Reading, Berkshire United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ancient Egyptian Tarot (Paperback)
If you fancy a little something different, but with good Tarot imagery like the fabulous Rider-Waiter, this is worth a try. It is colourful with clear and detailed drawings which offer much in the way of complex Tarot imagery. It doesn't cop out by simply offering four wands, for example, as some decks do; it offers some very nicely presented depictions of life events with plenty of background detail to help recall the cards' meanings. In that sense, it suprasses many of today's Tarot decks which, sadly, have no character and very little relation to the card's meaning. If you are a beginner, you will need a dweck that aids recall so this is a pretty nice one to advance to after starting on the absolute best of decks - The Rider-Waite.
