5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent: learn about aging, stem cells, evolution, genetics... and power prestige and all that was well :-), 18 April 2009

Can't believe this book has no reviews.

Currently selling for 1p (!!) this hardback book uses the metaphor of the Greek pantheon to organize the author's in-depth interviews with the worlds leading scientists in genetics. Fantastic chapter on human aging and the work of Cynthia Kenyon, some useful material (albeit available elsewhere now) on Venter/Collins and human genome project... Plus Paul Berg, terrific material on Sydney Brenner, James Watson. The chapter on Douglas Melton and stem cells reveals both the science, and the politics of this core field.

Engaging, wide-ranging and honest, it remains conversational and (dreaded word) 'accessible' too: would make a great xmas present for an intelligent child.
