Review

Shrinking Violet Grown-ups love Bridget Jones' diary, but youngsters will adore Violet Alexander's. Liverpool Echo ...the story is timeless, the descriptions of the girls and their relationship spot on and it does a great job of selling the empowering nature of language and story. Books for Keeps Excellent for any nine-up and will almost certainly lead to an addiction to Ure. Observer Becky Bananas 'The writing transcends any trace of heaviness.' Guardian The Secret Life of Sally Tomato 'Rhymes, sauciness, letters, irony, comedy, comic characters... a proper little turn-on for boys. A must-buy book.' Books for Keeps

Product Description

The seventh title in Jean Ure's acclaimed series of humorous and poignant stories. There's trouble ahead when Steph and Jessica's father embarks on a spot of kidnapping. Of course, Mum shouldn't have thrown the frying pan at Dad. The day after she threw it, Dad left home...Parents! First they're together, then they're apart. For Stephanie, a hip fourteen year old, and Jessica, her ten-year-old sister, being stuck in the middle of their parent's problems is just what they need. Not. When Dad decides that what the girls really need is a summer holiday with him in Brighton, they jump at the chance. No rules, no hassle, no worries. But things never turn out the way you think, and Steph and Sam soon discover there's a lot more to being a family than they thought...Jean Ure's diary series includes: Pumpkin Pie, Shrinking Violet, Skinny Melon and Me, The Secret Life of Sally Tomato, Becky Bananas, This is Your Life! and Fruit and Nutcase.

4.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant book!, 30 May 2005
By A Customer
This is a brilliant book Jean Ure is an amazing author! Some of it made me want to cry! Stephanie's (or Passion Flower's)parents split up and after a while her mum can't take it any more so she goes on holiday and leaves Stephanie and Samantha (or the Afterthought) with their dad. Their Dad is irresponsible and will let them do want they want so it's nice to have a break from their bossy mum, they love him but Stephanie wouldn't want to stay with him all the time (the Afterthought would though, she blamed her Mum for her Dad leaving). Things get scary when early in the morning... well I'm not going to spoil it, read it yourself!

5.0 out of 5 stars Passion Flower, 12 Feb 2005
Passion Flower, the best! Jean Ure is one of the greatest authors alive. Stephanie and her sister Sam are going to Brighton to stay with their dad for a while. The baddies are trying to get Sam and Steph's dad and they're all on the run. Stephanie pretends that she is fifteen or sixteen and stupid old Zed beleives her. He takes her to parties and she gets home way too late and is quite worried. Meanwhile, their mum is in Spain having a great time and Sam and Steph soon have had enough and want to go back to Nottingham. Their dad leaves them at Stansted and gets a plane to France, read this book, pleeeeese!!!!!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars passion flower- a review by a 12 year old and an 11 year old, 19 Oct 2003
By A Customer
we thought it is an excellent book. it portrays a family life from our ages point of view. Sometimes it was emotional and sometimes it was funny.
It is about about a girl with the nickname "passion flower" she has a sister called "the afterthought" their mum through a frying pan at their dad and they split up. and so begins a tale of a real life family drama.
