Synopsis

The film tie-in edition of the popular, one-volume, edition of the Book of the Century, featuring an exclusive image from the film. Since it was first published in 1954, The Lord of the Rings has been a book people have treasured. Steeped in unrivalled magic and otherworldliness, its sweeping fantasy has touched the hearts of young and old alike. Nearly 100 million copies of its many editions have been sold around the world, and occasional collectors' editions become prized and valuable items of publishing. Now, the epic fantasy has been filmed, with the first part of the movie trilogy, The Fellowship of the Ring (released simultaneously worldwide on 14 Dec 2001) receiving tremendous acclaim. The next two years will see the following two parts of this epic fantasy tale unleashed onto the silver screen -- no doubt to even greater praise from the critics and public alike. Already, the hype surrounding the filming of this monumental work has reached fever pitch, and images of the characters and landscape, featured in each part of the trilogy, have become eagerly sought after.

In order to whet the appetites of the millions of fans around the globe we will be publishing a special edition of the popular one-volume paperback, featuring an exclusive early -- as yet unseen -- image from the second film. A world exclusive edition of the Book of the Century, soon to be revealed as the movie experience of a lifetime.

4.0 out of 5 stars A hard slog - but very worthwhile, 23 Sep 2003

Although The Lord of The rings is a daunting exploit, it is very rewarding to read.
It does start slowly, but that only serves to build up a wonderfully rich and very deep world with enough character to make a very vivid image.
A magical tale, with some action, great mystery and myth all the way. Classic fantasy.
I would recommend that readers build up their endurance with other titles first, or tackle each part of the trilogy as one book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Get the paperback, 20 May 2004

Enough's been said about the story, excellent if you don't mind VERY long books (so long you might forget what happened in the early parts).

I just wanted to say that I wouldn't have gone for the hardback in hindsight. It's just too chunky and heavy! Especially if you have to stand up and read it on a crowded tube. The paperback feels much better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lord of the ring, 7 Jan 2003
This hard back edition is a wonderfull start if you plan to collect all three books. Probably the best of the three book, here you get to know the charaters and background to the story. It will have you enthralled, and unable to put it down!
