"The Listener Crossword" has appeared in "The Times" every Saturday since March 1991, having previously appeared in the eponymous magazine. The crossword is recognized as being one of the most fiendish around, requiring solvers to push beyond the boundaries of conventional solving skills. As a cryptic-crossword solver I've been wanting to try the Listener for a while, and this book gave me the confidence to get started. It doesn't provide any help on how to solve the puzzles, but it does present the sixty puzzles in order of difficulty - from an 'easy' one that brought in thousands of entries to a fiendish one that brought in only 8 correct entries. Knowing you have a fighting chance with the early ones makes the whole thing much less daunting!
