Review

Cirque Du Freak "!fast-paced and compelling book which leaves the reader hungry for more." JK Rowling "I read Cirque Du Freak last week. I loved it. I love the way you manage to juggle the funny with the unpleasant, the affection with the hurt. It's great story-telling." Roddy Doyle

Product Description

The nightmare begins! Vampire Blood trilogy comprising: Cirque Du Freak, The Vampire's Assistant and Tunnels of Blood. Join Darren Shan's descent into the darkness. CIRQUE DU FREAK Darren goes to a banned freak show with his best mate Steve. It's the wonderfully gothic Cirque Du Freak where weird, frightening half human/half animals appear who interact terrifyingly with the audience. After he sees the amazing performing spider, Madam Octa, Darren is determined to steal her. But his daring theft goes horribly wrong. The spider bites Steve and Darren has to sell his soul to an evil vampire to get the antidote. THE VAMPIRE'S ASSISTANT Darren joins the vampire, Mr Crepsley, as his assistant and they return to the Cirque Du Freak. There, Darren makes friends with the snake-boy, Evra Von (who knows what Darren is) and a local boy, Sam, and RV, an eco-warrior and animal lover (who do not). Darren begins to enjoy his life among the Cirque performers as the youngest half-vampire in existence, but he defiantly refuses to drink human blood -- the whole idea sickens him -- and he tries desperately to cling on to the part of him which is human. TUNNELS OF BLOOD When Mr Crepsley is called upon by the Vampire Generals, Darren and the snake-boy, Evra Von, leave the Cirque Du Freak and travel with him to the city. Whilst there, Darren meets Debbie and his life as a Vampire's Assistant fades into the background -- until corpes are found. Corpses drained of blood! Suspicious of Mr Crepsley's secretive bahaviour, Darren and Evra shadow him across the city and confront a creature of the night who may be the end of them all!

5.0 out of 5 stars Vampire Blood Trilogy, 2 Aug 2005
By Calum Fairweather "ccalumf" (Huntly, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
The Vampire Blood Trilogy, the first three books of The Saga Of Darren Shan, scary indeed to begin with, and gripping which leaves the reader hungry for more...loads of scary bits in these three books you are now lucky to receive as one whole book.
Book 1: Cirque Du Freak
Book 2: The Vampire's Assistant
Book 3: Tunnels of Blood
Cirque Du Freak, the beginning, where Darren meets Mr Crepsley and follows him into the night, but Darren's friend is in trouble and Mr Crepsley is the only one who can help him, but it isn't an easy sacrifice to make, find out more when you read...
The Vampire's Assistant, this book is the second, where Darren struggles a bit with his new life as Mr Crepsley's assisstant, and also he resists the one temptation that can keep him strong and alive...blood, one more thing is there's a really scary bit in this book, more revealed when you buy...
Tunnels Of Blood, the third book, where Darren finds out about vampaneze and their kind, also he meets a girl called Debbie which is under threat, you definetly need to buy this trilogy now to read more...

~ Calum Fairweather (Darren Shan fan)

5.0 out of 5 stars Moves Along At Breakneck Speed!, 8 Mar 2005
By Jasper Wong "jbywong" (Beijing, China) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
This is not one of the books with slow and boring action. It keeps you tense till the end. You will fly through the 500 pages in The Vampire Blood trilogy really quickly.

During the first book, Cirque Du Freak, Darren Shan becomes a half vampire to save his friends life.
During the second, Darren Joins the Cirque Du Freak and tries to save his friend Sam from a Dangerous Wolf Man
During the Third, Darren and Mr. Crespley leave Cirque Du Freak and go to a city where Mr. Crespley tries to hunt down a vampaneze, a vampire who kills to drink blood. (Vampires just drink enough for them to survive and do not kill the person by draining all their blood)

The Darren Shan Trilogy 1, THe Vampire Blood Trilogy is a good buy and is a bargain, considering the price and the fact that in one book it has the first three Darren Shan Stories.

4.0 out of 5 stars If harry potter was a vampire..........!, 6 Feb 2007
By Stuart J. Dillon (Manchester, England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I'm a huge fan of horror books and more so anything to do with vampires, so when I read the reviews this seemed perfect for me. I was wrong! What everyone fails to mention is that this is more of a 'my first horror book' best suited for adolescents moving into the world of horror and not quite ready for the likes of Brian Lumley, or those who appreciate childrens adventure. Having said that; in the way that adults can read harry potter and enjoy it, the Darren Shan books became a fun and compelling read. while in no means scary for a hardcore horror fan like myself, far from it, the story of a young boy and his adventures through a boys eyes can draw you in and experience it as though you were a child again and living it through him. The unfortunate thing about the trilogies is that they haven't been revised for a complete book; in other words, twice in one book you are being reminded what happened previously when you've only just turned the page! All in all an enjoyable read and an amazing twist at the very end making it all worthwhile.(I had bought all the trilogies in one go and didn't put them down untill finished!) I gave it 4 star because it's not the sort of book i go for, but if you like this sort of thing or have a child who can tolerate softcore horror, then i'd give it a five for you.
