2.0 out of 5 stars lacking analysis, 29 Dec 2002
By A Customer
Although the opening and final two chapters offer some news and analysis, the majority of the book, which is fluidly written, is a disappointment, being thin on information and devoid of insight and analysis. For example, Sven's time in Italy and Portugal and the movement between clubs is recited but without explanations or commentary. In a reference to league and club politics in Italy, Eriksson is quoted as saying the championship is decided off the field - but this fascinating comment is just left unelucidated by the author. Original research seemed to be confined to a very few interviews, none with Sven. This book characterises itself as an "in-depth biography" : it is not.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well researched biography of Sven Goran Eriksson, 3 Dec 2002
By A Customer
This biography by a Sunday Times correspondent is a well written appraisal of England's first foreign manager of the national football team. I found Sven Goran Eriksson's working class background in Sweden fascinating and Joe Lovejoy had obviously researched this well. The iceman becomes more interesting himself when Lovejoy turms his attentions to Sven's numerous affairs and documents the tabloid reacton to his latest fling which became a national soap opera. The chapters on the World Cup would be of interest to all football fans, although it leaves Sven's England career up in the air. If only.....!
