Review
LOST SUMMER 'A tense mystery that blends romance with suspense' WOMAN'S DAY STILL WATER 'This smart, absorbing novel grapples subtly with the idea that in life things are rarely black and white...and that, even with murder, things are not what they always seem' DAILY MAIL THE SNOW FALCON 'The story is as tough as it is tender, an exceptionally well-woven tapestry of romance and danger' Nelson DeMille BETTER THAN THIS 'His thrillers are more emotional and human than those of his contemporaries' IRELAND ON SUNDAY
Adam Turner is a successful investigative journalist who specializes in finding lost children. But he is not happy. As yet another relationship fails to thrive, and Adam is forced to confront himself, he comes to realize that his pattern of behaviour was set far back in the past, when he failed to intervene on behalf of a girl he believed to be in danger. On the surface, his childhood in the Lake District was idyllic. At a deeper level, it was stained by violence and envy. Circumstances require him to return to the village where he grew up. Once there, Adam cannot avoid unravelling the mystery which has haunted him for so long. In the process, treacherous secrets are brought to light, as well as the body of a murdered gypsy girl. This competent thriller has a good plot line. The protagonist is a pleasant fellow and the murder itself is not given detailed attention. What intrigues Adam, and by extension the reader, is the uncovering of layers of motive: finally, Adam's reconstruction of the deadly game reveals each character in his or her proper position. This is not great detective fiction but it is sufficiently entertaining to be read with some pleasure. (Kirkus UK)
