Essentially, a watered-down version of Sibley's
Official Movie Guide,
The Lord of the Rings Insider's Guide is a slim but fact-packed volume for children that reveals as much as they could ever want to know about the making of the biggest fantasy movie ever. Sibley adapts his style well for a younger audience, taking them behind the camera to meet director Peter Jackson and see how all the amazing special effects were created. Children will especially love the 16 pages of colour photographs showing all the cast, including the scary monsters, in full colour and should certainly create plenty of interest in the film. This will make a great present for any child who wants to see the film.

"...if the early footage is anything to go by, expect a spectacular voyage into Middle-earth." Empire
This lavishly illustrated companion book to first of the spectacular trilogy of films is an encyclopaedic guide to the places, characters, landscapes and history of Middle Earth. J R R Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings is one of the greatest books ever written, an epic work of incredible imaginative detail which has been voted in several worldwide polls as the book of the 20th century. It is the story of Frodo Baggins, a young hobbit who must make a perilous journey across Middle-earth to the Cracks of Doom and destroy the Ruling Ring of Power. Frodo and the Fellowship of the Ring, his faithful band of friends, must evade the ever-watchful eye of Sauron, Dark Lord of Mordor, who is desperately seeking to recover the mighty ring he lost thousands of years ago. This book includes a wealth of information and exclusive photographs of all the main characters and creatures appearing in the first film. It explains the ancient history of the One Ring, and the landscape unfolds with a four-page fold-out map of Middle-earth and background guides to Hobbiton, Orthanc and Moria. There are detailed histories of the Hobbits, Men, Elves, Dwarves, the Istari (Brotherhood of Wizards) and the Dark Powers who make up the rich cast in Tolkien's epic tale. The still shots by Pierre Vinet are stunningly detailed and reveal the loving care and attention paid to every aspect of the film. There are pictures from many of the key locations and tantalising tasters of those to come in future films. The text is comprehensive and provides a very accessible guide to Middle-earth for old and new fans alike. A beautifully produced large format hardback book with thick glossy pages and stunning pictures, this is an excellent film companion that can only enhance the enjoyment and appreciation of an amazing film.
