Product Description

Synopsis
The third book of The Crucible, an exciting new historical fantasy from the author of the popular Axis Trilogy. The crises enveloping Europe begin to alter the mentality of the world. People are no longer content with their lot in life; they have grown ambitious and disruptive. The Church is losing its grip, not only are the heresies raging out of control, but more and more priests are speaking out against the Roman Church...the order of the world is dissolving into chaos. Neville faces his own crisis as he begins to question his faith. Inflitrating many social circles, gathering information for the Church, he meets the heretic priest John Wycliffe and the peasant rebel Wat Tyler. He suspects strongly that they are shapeshifting demons...yet he cannot help but agree with their criticisms of the traditional structures of society and of the Church itself. Neville does not know it, but his soul has become the ultimate battleground. The choices he makes will dictate the final outcome of the battle between the forces of good, and those of evil.

5.0 out of 5 stars A satisfying conclusion to the trilogy, 3 Dec 2002
By Miss R. Smallman (United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
Thomas Neville must decide whether to choose for the Angels, or the Demons in this, the final volume of The Crucible.

This being a book by Sara Douglass, however, things are never quite as they seem!

As in the other two books in the series, the setting is an 'alternate' history - people who are knowledgeable about the time period may be confused by seemingly 'incorrect' facts, but these are deliberate, to provide a suitable setting for a fictional story.

If you enjoyed the rest of Ms Douglass's books, I recommend this one, but read the rest of 'The Crucible' first!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Crippled Angel, 9 Mar 2005
The Crucible trilogy is as excellent as any other Sara Douglass title. This book completes the trilogy with a bang! I could not put the book down, you will be intrigued from beginning to the end.

Read the first two before this book, as it makes the journey much more interesting. A great and unpredictable book. Sara Douglass should never stop writing!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Crippled Angel shows his face...., 10 Jan 2005
Thomas knows that the end is near. The day of his choice is closer, and still our hero is lost as to whom he will choose. The way of the demons, or the way of the angels?

A gripping read with a fantastic conclusion, (and a few tears here and there) this is the best book of the series, but read the first two books so they won't be spoilt...
