5.0 out of 5 stars One you can't put down!, 26 Feb 2003
You open this book for the first time and are instantly taken by both the author's detail and the cruelty of the story itself.

Although only 100 pages into this 500-page book, Bilton already paints a picture in such detail that you feel emotionally captured. You feel empathy towards the family of the officers called to investigate in the middle of the night and likewise, you feel the mental drain on the Detectives involved. The power of Bilton's message is brutal and keeps the reader asking questions - why did it happen, why did it happen so many times, why did each murder lead to another?

Bilton explores the crimes in a measured style and with the use of witness statements, forensic evidence and autopsy reports, he pieces together the investigation that spanned 14 long years. He carves out with delicacy the strain on the taskforce involved and the evidence that ultimately lead to Sutcliffe's arrest.

I read a review for this book prior to it being published and was instantly attracted - it has not disappointed. If you're looking for a book that is honest, open, detailed and chilling Bilton is your man.
