3.0 out of 5 stars average print quality, 25 Nov 2009
By Pardo (Kent) - See all my reviews

The star rating is about the print quality - my daughter loves the story. Just in case this review pops up on other editions, I'm referring to the Award Publications Ltd hardback edition. To be fair these are hard back books for the price of a paperback but the paper and print quality is distinctly average. Don't think you are getting "heirloom" quality just because it is a hard back. The covers are fine but inside they look cheap - they are serviceable and nothing more.

If you liked these stories as a kid, I'm sure your kids will enjoy them too, as I said, my daughter loves them. They do show their age though. I hope my daughter grows up to have a world view that includes the possibility that not all girls are simpering idiots who need a strong boy to tell them what to do and that not all people with a dark complexion or working class accents are necessarily criminals. Fortunately I think kids pretty much gloss over that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant story. A must read!, 26 Nov 2007
By Garry R. Walls "joepublic123" (yorkshire england) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This has all the elements of a great mystery book. Spooky castle, strange caretakers, secret passages and a deserted village. This was one of my favourite enid blyton books as a child and have enjoyed reading it again to my son who also thought it was fantastic.
