I was that friend who found the book in the library. I like diaries,espcially war diaries and have read many but this is the best!! I was gripped throughout the entire book. It showed how many Russian civilians suffered because of the Nazis. I could connect with the girl as she is my age and I will never take things for granted again. This is a compelling read and a must for all ages. READ IT!!!!!

My friend found this book in the school libary, and knowing that I was endeavouring to learn Russian properly, in stead of putting up with only being capeable of stringing together a few piecemiel (I thnk that means crap, right?) scentenses, asked me if I might intrested in reading it. I was. This heart-rendering, though curiosly heart warming novel brought tears to my eyes. Reading of the struggle of young Tania through more hardships than I like to imagine, made me realize that little of we endure and consider to be taxing is anywhere near comparable to what Tania experienced. She was so hopeful and so determined it made me feel inspired. She is my roll model. I could go on (and on and on) But the time has now come for you to order this book for yourself.

p.s I have learnt more Russian now (can string crap papargraph together), and it's good job too because my dad wants to move back to Moscow.
