5.0 out of 5 stars Maybe my fave Agatha Christie!, 16 Jun 2001
By A Customer
This was the first Christie and the first adult crime novel I ever read( at the age of eleven)and I was hooked ever after. She used the evocative setting of the Orient Express to great effect and the isolation of the snowbound train well. The fact that the novel is very loosely based on the Lindbergh kidnapping adds an extra chill. The characters are satisfying and is the denoument even though it is far fetched! Features M. Hercule Poirot at his very best.Very enjoyable, read it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Clever whodunnit in a famous setting, 16 Jan 2001
By A Customer
One of the best 'closed circle' Christie murders with a limited number of suspects, a murder victim and Poirot trapped in the snow-bound Orient Express. The author cleverly uses a famous American kidnapping and murder case to develop a very interesting plot and an unusual setting to create a claustrophobic atmosphere. An unusual solution made believable because of the background to the story. I wouldn't award this 5-stars (as I would for some other Christies, eg ABC Murders, Then There Were None, Towards Zero) because of the somewhat repetitious interviews of the suspects but otherwise excellent. This was the first Christie I read which hooked me into reading all the other Christies, back in 1974 just before I saw the film with Albert Finney starring as Poirot. This is the best of the Christie films by far which does not feature David Suchet as Poirot.
