Product Description
Synopsis
A page-turning novel that opens up what goes on behind the closed doors of today's modern US army. Ann Campbell is the army's darling. Decorated and admired, she's their poster girl for army recruitment and a spokesperson for that new non-sexist organisation. An horrific murder to be solved: Paul Brenner is an army warrant officer, attached to the Criminal Investigation Department. He's not too keen on his next assigment -- a case that involves the rape and murder of a famous general's daughter. The victim: Ann Campbell. A big question to be answered: Will the untimely death of this lovely girl with such a bright future become the whirlwind to demolish the squeaky clean image of the valiant and virtuous army?

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent read, 21 Dec 1999
By A Customer
When I saw that the film was on general release, I thought - "I must read the book first". I was not disappointed. De-mille has the capacity to draw out a simple whodunnit into an interesting, extremely witty and well written story that beckons you to turn the next page. His main characters are, as usual, very engaging, consistent and believable. You cannot help but laugh at the string of one-liners which frequently underpin the more serious, technical detective work - and that is a feat in itself!. A good read and one I would thoroughly recommend. ps. I still haven't seen the film yet!
