4.0 out of 5 stars Comic fiction about Northern Ireland politics and culture, 20 Nov 2000
By A Customer
An ideal - and highly entertaining - book for anyone keen to get an insight into the make-up of many types of people in the political process in Northern Ireland. Dudley Edwards cynically creates characters who, while appearing larger than life, seem curiously familiar to people from Northern Ireland. She also shows how she sees her own folk from the Republic of Ireland. The book is a perfect introduction to those new to the affairs of Northern Ireland - who until now will have been confused as to what motivates people to behave the way they do. If there is a larger-than-life character then it is the outrageous Lady Jack Troutbeck - but her entertainment value makes her a valued addition to the read. Readers outside Northern Ireland need not worry that everyone in the country is as mad as in this novel - but some are - and you just might meet one of them next time you visit.
