Review

'Clancy's got serious company.' New York Daily News 'When a former pilot with years of experience turns his hand to writing thrillers you can take their authenticity for granted. His writing is exceptional and the dialogue, plots and characters are first-class! far too good to be missed.' Sunday Mirror 'The best military adventure writer in the country.' Clive Cussler 'Dale Brown has the techno-thriller genre down cold! Brown finely etches all the details [and] the plot's tightly bolted together.' USA Today

Product Description

Patrick McLanahan and his team embark on a high-tech battle against crime in the USA -- in the spectacular new thriller from the New York Times bestselling author of Flight of the Old Dog and Fatal Terrain. The master of military adventure creates the ultimate one-man army! In another action-packed thriller of unrivalled authenticity, former pilot Dale Brown brings back his ever-popular hero Patrick McLanahan -- this time at the centre of an undeclared war exploding on the streets of America. Now retired, McLanahan works for a company developing cutting-edge strategic devices for the armed forces. But when his rookie-cop brother is shot by terrorists, he transforms himself into a high-tech weapon of war. Protected by a new carbon-filament bodysuit that can instantly harden into stronger-than-steel armour and armed with almost-superhuman powers he can barely control, he embarks on a personal mission of revenge that will send his life spiralling towards disaster.

4.0 out of 5 stars a pleasant change, 25 Aug 2005
By S. Mclellan - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I had read the other reviews here but got the book anyway as i have read all Dale Browns' other books.
There is no flying in this book but I thought this was quite a good change as it shows that the author can write about other scenarios. Using familiar characters also made sure that it was not too big a departure as to be uncomfortable. This book also included a little more personal stories of the characters which is unusual for Brown. The man behind the genius of Jon Masters is also revealed. One of his best yet!

2.0 out of 5 stars Oh Mr Brown, what were you thinking!, 15 Jun 2001
By A Customer
I'd like to think that I'm a big Dale Brown fan, but this was a real disappointment. This novel seemed to lack a spark, and some of the plot looks a bit like Tom Clancy's "Without Remorse", (which I'd highly recommend). I'll keep "Tin Man", but it'll not get as well-thumbed as my other Dale Brown novels. My recommendation is to get one of Dale's earlier novels, which are excellent.

2.0 out of 5 stars Strange, 28 May 2001
By A Customer
Dale Brown's books are generally a bit patchy. He started off really well with "Flight of the Old Dog", and went generally downhill.

This book is strange, because it isn't about flying. It uses some of the same characters from his previous books, and frankly that was a mistake, because it ruins all continuity. I get the impression he wrote it when he was under pressure to produce something new, and it didn't work.

In short - don't buy it. Buy some of his earlier books. His latest, Battle Born, is a considerable improvement.
