Product Description

Review

'A lively and light-hearted read which will give pleasure to all those who have long wished that there was just one more Christie to devour' Antonia Fraser, Sunday Telegraph 'Reads like authentic, vintage Christie. I feel sure Agatha would be proud to have written it' Mathew Prichard, Agatha Christie's grandson

Product Description

A full-length Hercule Poirot novel, adapted from Agatha Christie's stage play by Charles Osborne Sir Claud Amory's revolutionary new formula for a powerful explosive is stolen. Locking his house-guests in the library, Sir Claud switches off the lights to allow the thief to replace the formula, no questions asked. When the lights come on, he is dead, and Hercule Poirot and Captain Hastings have to unravel a tangle of family feuds, old flames and suspicious foreigners to find the killer and prevent a global catastrophe. BLACK COFFEE was Agatha Christie's first playscript, originally performed in 1930 and made into a now rarely-seen film the following year. Combining her typically beguiling plot and sparkling dialogue with his own faithful narrative, Charles Osborne's novelisation is 'A worthy addition to the Christie canon' (The Spectator)

4.0 out of 5 stars A great read and very enjoyable plot, 3 Jan 2002
By A Customer
This is book is that typical of Agatha Christie in the way she can make a very boring place such as a house in the English countryside into a great setting for a murder. Along with the plot of the missing formula, and the events which lead you to think of certain people who may have done it, but as it is, the true culprit is someone who you may not expect. I really enjoyed this book and think that those who like Agatha Christie will also really enjoy it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Could have been better.., 4 Feb 2001
By A Customer
I didn't enjoy the book at all. The whole affair was a drag, and there was no major surprise as to the identity of the killer. A credible effort but it could be better.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good Book that could have been written by Christie herself, 22 Jan 2000
Method and order in the little grey cells of Poirot's mind have solved the case again and saved us all from a global catastrophe. Hastings helped a little. Sir Claud has his formula for a new bomb stolen. One of the Household? He switched off the lights......to give chance to whoever stole the formula to put it back.......the lights came on .....Sir Claud is dead.

4.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful book, adapted superbly
Although this was adapted by another author it is almost undistinguishable from the work of Christie herself. Read more
