5.0 out of 5 stars Clive does it again, 17 Jan 2000
By A Customer
I was a little dissapointed with many of Clive Barkers books because I began by reading what I believe is his best, Weaveworld. This is the one true exception, his command of imagination is beyond belief! Just a note, originally this book was released as a single volume, (I've got it) and yes it is a bit of a git to heft around!

5.0 out of 5 stars An eye opener to greatness., 16 Nov 1999
By A Customer
This book was the book that made me realise just how incredibly good Clive Barker is. I was totally taken aback by the awesome imagination, skilful command of language, power of expression and ability to convey the fantastic to the reader displayed by the author. Clive Barker fans have learned to expect the unconventional but this book is something of a Salvador Dali. But however strange and alien things get, Barker manages to make it seem plausible and - almost - normal. In fact he keeps putting the supernatural and paranormal in natural and normal environments and vice versa with very good effect. I do not agree with the previous reviewer that the book was divided into two parts for profit reasons. Both parts are rather hefty wads of paper to carry around and it would not have been possible to put it all in one paperback edition and make it a comfortable read.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very good book, 24 Feb 1999
By A Customer
The only reason to split the original book into these two smaller books is to increase the profit of the publiser. If you like Clive you will love this epic.

4.0 out of 5 stars Typical Barker - wonderful twist at the end.
This is the fist book of two and as a pair they are very long. I feel it would have been better if some of the longwinded description had been left out and it had been... Read more
