4.0 out of 5 stars Still an enjoyable read, 4 Dec 2002
For a non American I found that this book does not hold the attraction that presumably it does for American readers. However it was still an enjoyable , easy read for all that. I am from Northern Ireland and have been to New York twice and yes I got a flavour of the City which was enjoyable. My critisism of the book would be that in my opinion it did not really develop the characters fully enough , as a result of which I lacked a certain sympathy for them.
The story was good without being great. It was my first book by Stuart Woods and despite my critisisms I felt that there was enough there to try another book by the same author

5.0 out of 5 stars I had to struggle to put the book down! I needed the ending!, 23 May 1999
By A Customer
The reason that I read this book first is that it is the first in the Stone Barrington series and I have an obsession with being chronological about novel characters. However, I wasn't at all disappointed with the writing! This book has all the necessary components of a contemporary detective novel! A wacky partner, seduction, news crowds, and an unexpected ending! I managad to read this very quickly, and that doesn't always happen. Also, I learned everything I need to know about police safety. Get shot, go through hell. One thing I am skeptical about: how can anyone survive a twelve story fall? I know it's possible, but only about one in a hundred thousand. Anyway, excellent way to pass the time, and Stuart Woods is on my positive list!
