5.0 out of 5 stars A book that changed my life., 19 Aug 2003
By bookwormkt (Ilkley, West Yorkshire United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
The book is about a family in rural Ireland. The mother decided to home educate each of her 13 (I think) children at home until they were about 8 or 9 years old. She used a Montessori approach, which she describes with great joy and enthusiasm. Most of her children were grown up when she wrote the book, so she also writes about what they did in later life.

This book inspired my continuing interest in Montessori education. I used many of her ideas when teaching 2 of my children at home. One child is autistic and has learning difficulties, but did really well being taught in a Montessori way. We had 8 mainly happy years doing home-education.

If the pressures of the National Curriculum are taking the fun out of education for you or your children do try to read this book.

A reprint is long overdue!!
