A good old fashioned approach taking you from the basics up. As with any language, you get out what you put in. To improve the book, I would have liked the answers to the grammer questions at the back of the book. Also a cassette to let me listen while driving would get it the extra few marks.

I found this book to be ideal for giving a good basic grounding in Spanish, the grammar of the language as well as vocabulary. Each lesson is well structured, easy to follow and each one gets progressively harder, thus providing a challenge to the student without ever being too daunting.

Old fashioned in format? maybe a little, but never the less an excellent first book for learning the language.
Answers to the exercises at the back would be very useful, and enable the student to check progress aand accuracy before proceeding to the next one.

The good thing about this book is that it gets straight to the point with chapters on situations that you would find yourself in. However, it is not for the beginner as it moves along quickly through various grammar and verb usages.
There is an answer booklet available but searching is required.
