Synopsis

This exciting new series of enjoyable and entertaining stories is ideal for Guided and Independent reading. Using a tightly controlled vocabulary, the stories include the NLS high frequency words for Reception and Y1 as well as other easily decodable words. Set 1 The stories are available in two packs, 1a and 1b, which allows careful progression across the set of 12 books. Set 1b includes words with sh, th and ch. Each page has 1 line of text. Set 2 Available in three packs: 2a, b and c. Set 2a features six stories with initial consonant clusters and common end clusters as well as words ending in -ck, -ff, -ll, -ss and -ng. Each page has 1-2 lines of text. Set 2b includes six stories which feature the vowel digraphs: ee; ai/ay; i-e/ie; oa/ow; and oo. The stories also include -ed and -ing endings and have 2-3 lines of text on each page. Set 2c includes six stories which feature the vowel digraphs: ea/ee; a-e/ai/ay; igh/y/ i-e/ ie; o-e/oa/ow; u-e/ue/ew/oo. The stories also include -ed and -ing endings and have 3-4 lines of text on each page.

All the books feature Letterland characters and use natural language and strong picture cues to help children practise and reinforce their word level skills.

I’ve been struggling to find any early readers that would capture the attention of my (almost) 5-year-old barbie-princess-ballerina. When the packet arrived she ripped it open and immediately read 3 of the books on the trot and burst into tears when we told her it was time to stop to go to the park!

She is already familiar with the characters from the videos and these make a perfect accompaniment. The words are a good mixture of simple monosyllables interspaced with more complicated words e.g. "Elephant" that are easy to guess from the pictures but help to build confidence.

The humour is well in tune with the age range.

My 3 year old is now looking over his big sister's shoulder and asking her to read the stories to him.

This is my top purchase in early readers - and believe me I’ve tried a few!
