Product Description

Product Description

A new and thoroughly revised edition of Big Strides, this teacher's guide provides clear and accessible guidance on how to deliver the NLS word level work in Y1 Term 3 and throughout Y2. The book is ideal for teachers familiar with Letterland in the early stages and who want to take it even further. This teacher's guide continues from where Programme One Teacher's Guide ends and covers all recurring letter patterns and gives children a thorough grounding in letter behaviour with all its inconsistencies. Programme Two provides invaluable guidance on teaching the following: * long vowel phonemes: ee, ai, ie, i-e, oa and o-e * vowel / consonant phonemes: ar, ew, ow, air, or, er, ere and ear * consonant digraphs: wh, ph and ch * suffixes: -ed, -ing, -ful and -ly * important spelling strategies including predicting when to double the consonant, and understanding final y changing to i.

About the Author

Lyn Wendon is a reading specialist who devised Letterland as a remedy for reading failure. Working among children with learning difficulties, she found that they needed a style of teaching that not only explained letter behaviour, but also fired their imaginations. The result was Letterland!
