5.0 out of 5 stars A compelling read !, 17 Sep 2007
Having read some of her poetry anthologies, I was excited to try out Daisy Goodwin's new book. It is a compelling read and once you begin, it is difficult to put the book down. It literally starts on the first page as a 'cliff hanger' and holds your attention right until the end. This is essentially an account of Daisy's difficult childhood - her mother's abandonment when Daisy was just five years old had a traumatic effect which permeated her life as an adult and as a mother. It left her with so many questions thar needed answers - and so begins her journey of discovery which takes her to remote areas of Argentina as she explores her mother's extraordinary family history. The narrative is superb, and in her attempt to find the answers she cleverly interweaves the dramatic story of an exotic family history with her own experiences as a mother.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unputdownable, 28 Sep 2007
This is an honest and moving account of how one woman overcame the ghosts of her past. The author expertly interweaves history with personal experience. The result is riveting. A must read for anyone who loved Joan Didion's The Year of Magical Thinking or A.M Homes' The Mistress' Daughter.

5.0 out of 5 stars a moving memoir, 18 Nov 2007
By Liz Taylor (London, England) - See all my reviews
This is a book for anyone who has suffered the pain of rejection and sought to know the reason why, especially if that person was your mother. I defy anyone to read this book and remain unmoved by the voice of that small child still inside Daisy Goodwin.
