Product Description

Review

'A bubbly, fizzy story' Mail on Sunday 'Fizzing with acerbic dialogue and high-level sexual slapstick, this is a very funny romantic comedy, offering plenty of catharsis for women at both ends of the marital spectrum, and very little comfort for the husbands in between' Good Housekeeping

Product Description

From the bestselling author of The First Wives Club and Bestseller, a witty social satire of love, marriage, and the games men and women play with each other. Sylvie knows she has a lot to be thankful for. So what if her husband, Bob, is only interested in what she has to say 'in four words or less'? The kids are off to college, and she is sure her marriage is about to bloom again. In fact it has already, but not with her. When Sylvie confronts Bob's mistress, she is amazed: except for a gap of ten years and fifteen pounds, Marla could be Sylvie's twin. But while Sylvie wants passion and romance, Marla just wants a husband of her own. And so their scheme is hatched: a nip and tuck and some blonde highlights for Sylvie, some brown hair and a few extra pounds for Marla, and the women are ready to switch places. The result as they juggle their new lives and identities is hilarious and enlightening. But just how long can they keep their charade going, and will it all end in tears?

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellently written - would make a fantastic film!, 19 Aug 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Switch (Paperback)
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The main character Sylvie finds out her husband is cheating on her when her friends keep telling her they have seen her in certain places that she's never been to. She finds out that her husband is cheating on her with Marla who could be her double but is 10 years younger. They decide to switch places to see who Bob really loves, so go away to a health farm where Sylvie has plastic surgery to smooth away her wrinkles, loses weight, has her hair lightened and learns how to live like Marla. Marla is none too happy about having to gain weight and darken her hair but wants nothing more than to be a wife with a family. When they switch their lives become muddled and it is very amusing, particularly when Sylvie becomes a reflexologist (Marla's job) and has to deal with somewhat 'kinky' clients! They both end up calling on each other when they become distressed and everything blows up when Marla ends up sleeping with Sylvie's best friend John and Bob decides that he is leaving Sylvie for Marla (who is really Sylvie!). The ending doesn't drag out too much and I will leave that for you to find out! I thought it was an excellent book and would recommend it highly.

3.0 out of 5 stars Well, my opinion differs, 12 Oct 1999
This review is from: The Switch (Paperback)
It WOULD make a good film because the plot and storyline is excellent. However I find the book just drones on and on and I find myself skipping pages in order to "get on with it".

I have read Olivia Goldsmith's Marrying Mom (absolutely excellent) and I'm sorry but The Switch is a big disappointment in comparison to that.

3.0 out of 5 stars A pretty mediocre effort
There;s nothing wrong with this book, but then there's nothing particularly right about it either. It plods along, introducing the characters, plot, etc. Read more
