5.0 out of 5 stars The Sound of Silent, 7 July 2008
By Sam "samueltyler" (Reading, Berkshire) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
This review is from: Silent Prey (Paperback)
Davenport has left the Minnesota Police force and is now concentrating on his software business. He is happy with his life after recently apprehending a crazed doctor who had been killing people and cutting out their eyes. Therefore, he is unhappy when the doctor escapes in New York and NYPD ask for his help. Things are not exactly as they seem as Davenport is asked to also look into a vigilante killer who may be working for the police. Can Davenport work both cases to catch at least three killers?

I really enjoyed 'Silent Prey' and imo it is one of the best Davenport books to date. I was not too impressed with bringing back the character of the doctor again, but this time he is much improved. The enemy is both believable and part of a great twist. It is the twists and turns in the final third of the book that make it really stand out. Sandford is brilliant at recreating the feel of a genuine police investigation and corruption. For the first time in a while I was caught by the twist and that is no easy thing. The character of Davenport remains both intriguing and charismatic - I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

3.0 out of 5 stars A weak story for Davenport, 10 Mar 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Silent Prey (Paperback)
"Silent Prey" is a sequel, and as all sequels is weaker than the first. You already know who is guilty and why, you have no surprise in the "modus operandi" of the killer and little tension in the chase. In "Silent Prey" Davenport, the top investigator, seems to fight a battle he already fought before with less strenght. The side investigation, probably meant to spice up the story, is just an excuse to fill in the blanks. The book is weak and lacks of suspense, but it is very well written. Much better choices are "Rules of Prey" or "Winter Prey" of the same author.
