Synopsis

The year is 1810, and as rain sweeps the Peninsula, ruin stares the Allied armies in the face. Napoleon's troops are poised to strike. Wellington is desperate for money to pay his armies and, acting on a gambler's impulse, he sends Captain Sharpe on a mission to recover abandoned gold.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not his best, 22 Oct 2008

A good read, but agree with some of the other reviews, certainly not a Sharpe classic. Without giving away the ending, found it a little out of character and in general the book wasn't as fast paced as the others. However still worth a read

5.0 out of 5 stars enthralling, 16 May 2001
By sgtlarge@hotmail.com (Essex, England) - See all my reviews
This book takes you through a mixture of opinions, mysteries, and adventures. It's like theres 5 different stories rolled into one superbly gelling book. The battle scenes whether large or small are hugely engrosing while in true Cornwell style totally realistic. All i can say is if you have seen the Sharpe movies, this book is a must read because in my opinion, the movie does no justice to it at all because it is a totally different story! It's also a turining point in Sharpe's life because in the book series (not the movies) he meets and falls in love with Tereasa for the first time. Read it!!!!!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Exciting and fast moving, lives up to previous Sharp books, 9 Sep 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Sharpe's Gold (Audio Cassette)
This book is written to the same quality of all of Bernard Cornwell's previous Sharp books and contains the same glouriosly described battle scenes which really bring the book to life. I would reccomend this book to anybody who has read and enjoyed any Sharp books in the past or for those who just enjoy an exciting read.
