Synopsis
This famous corner of the Scottish Highlands and Islands is home to a spectacular variety of mountain landscapes and dramatic coastlines. There is also a wealth of fascinating places to explore: caves and sea stacks, headlands and arches, waterfalls and castles. The introduction gives information about the topography, geology and history of the area, and describes the flora and fauna inhabiting it. The main section of the book comprises 30 walks, suitable for all abilities, from young children to experienced walkers. Each walk has a key illustrating principal features, such as level of difficulty and type of terrain, a route profile indicating altitude and distances, as well as a fact file summarizing useful information, such as start and finish points, duration, safety advice and points of interest. It is illustrated with colour maps from leading authority, Harveys, and each walk is then described in detail with clear, easy-to-follow instructions. The text gives the history of the mainland.

Most Helpful Customer Reviews   7 of 8 people found the following review helpful: Not For Ramblers ?, 21 Sep 2007 By  Martin Sones (Herts, UK) - See all my reviews    Although this book seems well written and illustrated, I was very disappointed to find that very few of the 30 walks were suitable for my type of walking. The walks are graded as Easy (7), Moderate(10), Difficult(10) or Very Difficult(3). Of the moderate walks, three are over 13 miles in length and one climbs to over 2400 feet. If, like me, you're more of a rambler than a scrambler then I would recommend Mary Welsh's "Walking The Isle Of Skye" in the Clan Walk Guides series.
