Product Description

Product Description

Produced in association with the Rambler's Association and Harvey's Maps, this brand new series covers some of the most popular walking areas in Britain and Ireland, combining detailed route descriptions with information on the local history and wildlife. The second largest National Park in the British Isles, Snowdonia offers a variety of challenging walks, from the high peaks to lowland valleys and gorges. The guide also includes some walks outside the Park. *The introduction gives information about the topography, geology and history of the area, and describes the flora and fauna inhabiting it. *The main section of the book comprises 30 walks. Each walk has a key illustrating principal features, such as level of difficulty and type of terrain, a route profile indicating altitude and distances, as well as a fact file summarising useful information, such as start and finish points, duration, safety advice and points of interest. *Illustrated with colour maps from leading authority, Harveys, each walk is then described in detail with clear, easy-to-follow instructions. As well as route descriptions, the text gives the history of the main landmarks along the way plus information on the natural history of the area, and is accompanied by stunning colour photographs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Never expect it to be so good!, 12 Jul 2001
By W. M. Sim "Brunel" (England, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I have the experienced Walks 3 before this book arrived. When I was reading through the book, the information (time, distance, scenery description and ascend / descend) are correct to my best knowledge. The pictures shown are taken from very strategic point (based on what I see), the map is much much better as at the courtesy of Ordinance Survey. The altitude, parking, youth hostels are labelled properly. I doubt I would be lost in my future walks. I would like to recommend who plan a trip to North Wales, have a look at this Rambler's guide. It could save you buying many other maps. Language wise, no problem for a Chinese lad to understand.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic rambling book for North Wales - Excellent Value, 10 Nov 2001
By A Customer
I'd been looking for a book that gave me some locations in North Wales for different walks, but couldn't find one detailed yet interesting... I can highly recommend it..... It would make an ace present for a prospective yet inexperienced walker.....

3.0 out of 5 stars Good guide spoiled by errors, 1 Sep 2003
By P Stern (United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This would be an excellent book were it not for serious errors which should have been picked up in the proofing.

I have only used the book for one walk so far, Yr Eifl (28). The walk is four miles in reality whilst the summary wrongly claims it is 5 miles. The walk profile shows the correct length but that is including an ascent of the north peak which is not in fact in the walk.

And that is in just one walk - I haven't checked in detail the other walks, but eight others (7, 14, 16, 19, 20, 22, 26, 27) show significantly different distances in the summary from that shown in the profile. Presumably many of the profiles may be faulty in other ways.

Such errors could make walkers misjudge the time needed for a walk and its difficulty, which could be annoying, could be dangerous.

Another annoyance is the lack of a map showing where the walks are situated - it's hard work for someone who doesn't know the area well to locate nearby walks.

I bought this book about 5 years ago, when I wanted to start going it alone in the great outdoors. It's got to be the best book of 1 day walks. Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing and misleading
I think this book fails on two counts:
1. It is printed on glossy paper so it is heavy and impossible to look at in wet weather. Read more
