Product Description

Synopsis
A book about how animals use their bodies and how they behave and why. Each chapter looks at a separate stage in the life of animals and how they all have to solve a particular set of problems if they are to survive and eventually pass on their genes to the next generation. The crab with stinging boxing gloves, the mother bat finding her baby among 10 million others, the cleaner-fish whose customers queue up in the sea, the lion who kills the cubs of a rival, the navigating ant and the viper that is a caterpillar - all behave as they do for the same ultimate reason.

4.0 out of 5 stars the trials of life, 5 Feb 2009

(REAL NAME)
This is the third and final volume that was published to accompany the TV series Life on Earth.Volumes one and two dealt with biodiversity and evolution and the environment.
Thie book deals with how animals use their bodies and how they behave.Areas covered include birth, growing up, finding food, hunting and escape, finding the way, home making, living together, fighting, friends and rivals, talking to strangers, courting and reproduction. All chapters are very well written and illustrated but the pictures are on matt paper with consequent loss of clarity.
A trilogy of books to be recommended.
