Product Description

Product Description
The perfect gift for every family with a budding golfer -- a little book of wit and wisdom dedicated to the world's most compelling/most boring* sport. *delete as applicable There are many definitions of golf, including 'A lot of walking broken up by disappointment and bad arithmetic.' Anyone who has been bitten by the golf bug can identify with this. Golf seems to induce such wild emotional fluctuations and mood swings that it sounds strange to hear it described as a hobby. Expectations are always high but results usually disappoint. From handy hints and Fore play to golf lore and etiquette, this little book combines serious points of instruction with flippancy and humour. Containing well over 200 entries and cartoons, it will keep any golfer entertained during those long pauses while the lady golfers get off the green.

About the Author
Sandy Parr is the pseudonym for a well-respected personality in the world of sports publishing. This is his first (and hopefully last) book.

1.0 out of 5 stars A very poor book indeed, 3 April 2001
This 160-page book is only 85 x 95 mm in size and nearly every page contains so-called insights into the game or golfing quips. These are usually 2 lines long and are all awful - they are simply stating the patently obvious.

Examples include : "It's tough in the rough so keep your ball on the fairway" "Always play to the best of your ability" "The secret of missing any hazard is to aim straight at it" "Tee the ball up high for distance, low for accuracy".

This third quote is ridiculous - I play off 12 and if I were to aim for a hazard, I would usually hit it. This last one is also incorrect. Most golfers will know that teeing the ball up high only makes you hit the ball higher in the air.

Anyone who has played golf could have written this book but most golfers would had made a better job of it...
