5.0 out of 5 stars I still regularly use this book for my training programme, 29 Nov 2000
By A Customer
Last year I started running after reading the introductory chapters of this book at a friend's house. I bought the book and I continue to run 2 or 3 times a week throughout the year, rain or shine, thanks to the advice from Bruce Tulloh's book. Whether you are a complete novice, or a serious amateur, you will find help and support from this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Running is easy with this book!, 7 April 2003
By A Customer
If you are new to running or haven't been running for a while, and just getting back into it, then the book has a 'First steps' walk/jog program. This is 8 weeks long and is very easy to follow. In the first few weeks the emphasis is more towards walking than jogging but as you get to weeks 3 and 4 more jogging is introduced. Then in weeks 5/6/7/8 the jogging starts to take more of the time. Once you have complete the full 8 weeks then the book recommends that you repeat weeks 7 and 8 with no walking at all.

The next program (if you feel you are ready to move up a level) is called 'The Basic Fitness Program'. This is 4 weeks long and at this level you are doing all the exercise you need to keep you healthy and keep your weight constant. The text in the book says that you could take part in occasional fun runs or local races up to 10km once you've reached this level.

There are quite a lot of other programs in the book if you want to have a go at something a bit more serious. For example any distance up to and including a marathon, then there is a program in this book for you.

This book offers more than just a list of programs to follow. It includes chapters on 'Why run', 'How to train', 'Staying fit' as well as indepth information on the programs too.
