I need microsoft word and powerpoint for my laptop (which came pre-installed with both of these for trial). At first not having either of these wasn't a problem for me because it did come with an ancient version of word (I think its the original) which is fine for typing out essays. However my 6th form gives out a lot of work online on word 2007 which won't open in my version of word.
I was wondering if anyone could tell me exactly what it is I need to buy (I'm paranoid I'll buy an upgrade or product key accidently) at a cheap price. It just needs to be a version of word 2003 or higher as I know thats compatible with my school.
I know I must sound pretty stupid asking help for something so simple but I do really need to sort this out.
Thank you :]

Office 2003 student and teacher edition was the last home edition of the office suite to include powerpoint. It's easy to pick up genuine used copies for around 30. Microsoft do a free compatibility pack download to maintain compatibility with more recent versions.

You can purchase Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 from for under 40 at the moment. You will need to show proof that you are a student to be eligible for that price. A bargain!
