Delivery of item was top notch, converter arrived within 4 days after ordering.
Bought this item so that I could hook our Sky+ box to a hdtv with a hdmi lead,
& because the info states that it up-scales standard definition tv to......
"720p hd" format!
When the converter/up-scaler was first inserted the picture did seem to
improve, colours were bolder, textures deeper & the picture on a whole was
more vibrant. Concerning sound, the unit didn`t seem to improve sound to
any noticeable degree, but there is a remark about 5.1 Surround Sound later on.
After a few days viewing,I noticed that there was pixelation on broad/blank
surfaces when viewing tv,this "effect" is like if the surface in question is
"undulating". The effect is NOT always noticeable, but when it is,it does
distract from the viewing enjoyment.
So,I did some research on-line(a/v forums are great for info)& came to the
conclusion that the two up-scalers(the one in the tv & the review item)were
probably clashing & causing this effect due to the size of the tv screen.
Most people(on a/v forums)seem to think that it`s hard to up-scale a tv picture
to 720p from standard definition if it wasn`t transmitted in that format but,
they seem to think that it could benefit anyone who doesn`t have a good
picture on a 37"hdtv,or larger. This is because larger hdtv`s do not show
a "good picture" on S/D tv in general!
So I used it with a 5.1 Pioneer dvd surround sound player, once again the picture
did improve on all fronts, but this time the "undulating"
effect was not so apparent!..hardly noticeable on dvd`s,
plus we now have 5.1 Surround Sound on Sky+ tv,which is great!
